Punjab started their innings brilliantly as opening duo KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal added 183 runs for the first wicket- the third highest for the first wicket and the eighth highest overall in the IPL. Mayank Agarwal got his maiden T20 ton and scored 106 runs in 50 balls and KL Rahul played a sheet-anchor with scoring 69. Pooran guided Punjab to an imposing total of 223 after a short cameo of 25 off 8 balls.

Losing Jos Butler early to Cottrell, Rajasthan saw a fighting stand from Smith and Samson. The skipper got another quick half-century, after losing a wicket to Neesham. Samson continued his hard-hitting and put pressure on Punjab in middle-overs. He smashed 85 off 42 balls, including 7 sixes. Shami got him out in 17th over to give Punjab a big breakthrough. Rahul Tewatia who was struggling, came out as firepower agaisnt Cottrell in 18th over, smashing 5 sixes in a single over. Jofra did the final job to snatch the victory from the jaws of the defeat. In final over, Rajasthan scripted the highest successful chase in the history of the tournament.
