Mumbai, who came in to bat first after losing the toss, did not have a good start and Shivam Mavi showed the path of the pavilion to De Kock on a total of 8 runs. But after this, Suryakumar Yadav shared a 90-run partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar was run out in an attempt to steal the run on the total score of 98, he played a crucial innings of 47 runs. But captain Rohit Sharma appeared in his old color in this match for which he is known as 'Hitman'. He shared a 49-run partnership with Saurabh Tiwari, Rohit smashed an 80-run knock, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes in his innings, becoming the second player to score more than 200 sixes in Indian T20 League history. Saurabh Tiwari scored 21, Hardik Pandya 18 and Pollard scored 13 runs. Mumbai batsmen were unable to score fast runs in the final overs, due to which the score, which seemed more than 200 at one time, was limited to 195 runs.

Chasing a score of 196, the Kolkata team had a poor start and opener Shubman Gill was out for 7 as Trent Boult was dismissed. At the same time, Sunil Narine scored 9 and became the victim of James Pattinson. Captain Dinesh Karthik was dismissed lbw by Rahul Chahar for 30 runs. The fourth wicket of Kolkata team fell to Nitish Rana, who was caught by Kieron Pollard at the hands of Hardik Pandya on a personal score of 24 runs.
