Delhi's innings was started by Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, who had flopped in the previous match, returned in this match and gave Delhi a brilliant start. Both batsmen shared 94 runs in 10.4 overs for the first wicket, before Shikhar Dhawan was picked by  Piyush Chawla on score of 35 runs. Chawla gave another blow to Delhi as Prithvi Shaw  got stumped by Dhoni after scoring a brilliant knock of 64, hitting 9 fours and a six in the innings. Later, the duo Rishabh Pant and captain Shreyas Iyer partnered to bring the team to a score of 175. Pant contributed 37 and Shreyas added 26 runs.

Chennai made a steady start in the chase but it did not last long as they lost three wickets for 44 runs. Faf continued his top form but he didn't get the enough support from the other hand. The middle order shattered against the run rate pressure and the quality spin from Delhi. Kedar tried to carry the innings but he couldn't accelerate when it requird the most. Chennai could score only 131 runs after losing 7 wickets and lost the match by 44 runs. The middle-order trauma is scaring Chennai and they're standing on the shouler of Faf who is the only consistent player this season. This time, the lack of two players Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh is definitely visible in the team, while Chennai's compact batsman Ambati Rayudu is also out due to injury but he will be back for the next affair against Hyderabad.
